Who pays the real price of war and civil unrest? Often the world forgets about the people who are displaced when wars breakout and civil unrest and fear dominate. For decades Afghanistan has been at war both with outside forces and internal battles. In these photographs we see the faces of children, beautiful children, who have been displaced from their country, their safety, and their lives by war. We see the pain of living in a home that is not their own. We see their dirty complexions from living in inadequate shelters and their thin faces from lack of a high-quality diet. But one additional thing is captured in these amazing images taken by photographer Muhammed Muheisen. We see hope in the eyes of the children. A hope that life can change. A hope they are not forgotten.

Muhammed Muheisen has shown us both the pain and horror of refugees in his brilliant series of portraits, but now it is up to the world to help these lovable children discover the hope in their eyes is not misplaced.
